The Best of Live at the Dawson Armory
October 14, 1972
A reel of tape, precariously near death at the bottom of a musty old box in the corner of the basement, has been salvaged and its contents analyzed, desanitized and played on a tape deck -- a curious machine my children found odd. The sound somehow managed to stick to the tape after years of neglect and outright abuse; and now reveals the darker side of the music industry in backwater Minnesota in the early 1970s.
Was the tape's resurrection a divine contribution to music posterity or simply an assault on good taste? You be the judge.
Deep Silence fans around the world, rejoice! Their latter stuff is gone forever, but this disturbing recording from the early years (make that "year") still exists. Thanks to digital means, the music you feared (or hoped) was lost lives on. Long live digital recording! Long live Deep Silence!
